Crickets. Courage. Repeat.
You know you're about to do something hella good for your soul when your instinct is to run and hide.
Sweaty palms. Heart racing. Telling myself I didn’t have to do it. That I could go make cookies instead — because making cookies is childhood to me. It’s safe. Plus, you know the outcome will be deliciousness, not falling on your face embarrassment-ness.
But I didn’t go make the cookies. Instead, I went live on Substack. And it took all the courage. Because when you’re trying to build something new, your mind chatter goes into overdrive, ticking off all the reasons why it’s a terrible idea and it’s best to leave things like this, like grown-up things, to the people who have their shit together.
Stay where it’s safe, stay in the lane you chose for yourself. We’re so good here.
But here’s what I’ve learned: that panic-y feeling — that physical resistance in your body — isn’t a sign to stop. It’s a sign that something important is on the other side. In my interview with Pia Lechter on my podcast Aging Fiercely (tell your friends!), she spoke of this fear and how it tends to get really loud when you’re on the verge of something big. (This clip explains it perfectly!)
So I put my earbuds in, turned up a song that moves me, and I let myself feel it. I got out of my head and into my body. And then I hit go live.
And nobody showed up.
And you know what? It was one of the most meaningful things I’ve done for my growth in a long time.
Because here’s what I know to be true: the small scary things that nobody sees, the moments where you show up for yourself with zero applause or recognition — those are the moments that build self-trust.
And self-trust? That’s the secret gateway to real, lasting change.
Not motivation. Not willpower. Not the perfect plan.
Self-trust.
In this week’s episode of the Aging Fiercely podcast, I walk you through exactly what happened, the technique I used to work through the resistance, and why doing the uncomfortable thing — especially when nobody is watching — is how you slowly walk yourself into becoming the person you want to be.
If you’ve ever talked yourself out of something that mattered to you, this one is for you.

Doing it again!
On Tuesday, March 3rd at 9:30 am (est), I’m going live on Substack, and we are going to breathe life into a goal together. The beginning of each month is the best time to reconnect to your goals, your passions, or revive a latent purpose you’ve been hiding in the closet for “someday.”
Tuesday is your someday!
Come join me and bring a goal. Big, small, terrifying, half-formed — all of it is welcome. It’s free, it’s live, and we’re doing this together.
I’m going to walk you through a process for making a goal feel real before you even start working toward it — that’s where the magic lives!
Join me Live!
Until Tuesday, my turning-dreams-into-reality friend!

P.S. I made the cookies anyway… after I did the live!
If you’re new here, welcome to my heart-focused, woo-casual, shamelessly optimistic, fitness accountability bandwagon where we slow down and allow space in your day for the real ‘YOU’ to feel witnessed + worthy… not to mention vibrantly healthy!
This isn’t a “newsletter” filled with stale fitness and wellness advice, or trending fads that promise beach-ready bods in just two weeks…
… this is a love letter to the real YOU who, in your 40+ years of living, knows that to age fiercely means you can…
Lift heavy things (like your expectations, your standards, and occasionally actual weights) and feel how it gets more satisfying with age.
Deflate your old, farty narratives that “good” is good enough - you’re ready for more
Know that taking care of yourself is no longer “optional”
Deprive yourself of negativity, not pizza
Workout for the endorphins, not the scale.
And we’re ready to take on the scary things! 👊
